Brighton Photo Biennial presents the work of international artists from a range of cultural backgrounds, commissioning new work, premiering recent work and exhibiting historical work in new contexts.

The Biennial is committed to delivering challenging events and stimulating critical debate on photography in all its forms: new and historic, digital and analogue, still and moving. Through this, the Biennial aims to reach the widest possible audiences creating exciting opportunities for participation and engagement.

Brighton Photo Biennial is the UK’s leading festival of international contemporary photography. For its fourth edition, Brighton Photo Biennial 2010 will present New Documents, guest curated by the internationally renowned photographer, editor and curator Martin Parr.

New Documents will be the world’s first frame free photography festival, reflecting the immediacy and vibrancy of international contemporary photography and will be informed and inspired by the diverse communities and contexts of Brighton & Hove. T

he Biennial facilitates the presentation of the work by artists from a range of cultural backgrounds, commissioning new work, premiering recent work and exhibiting historical work in new contexts for anyone passionate about photography.

The Biennial is a partnership organisation and works with galleries, visual arts organisations and educational institutions in Brighton & Hove and in cities and venues across the wider South East region. Brighton Photo Biennial works in close partnership with Brighton Photo Fringe collaborating on various projects and creating joint platforms.

For 2010, Martin Parr will also be one of the selectors of the Fringe’s keynote exhibition OPEN 2010, along with Charlotte Cotton and Val Williams. A series of talks, participatory activities and events (all ticketed with some payment required) will be staged during the opening weekend beginning Friday 1 October through to Sunday 3 October and throughout the six weeks of the festival.

Exhibitions and commissions will be presented at its partner venues in the centre of Brighton & Hove, BN1, including: Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Fabrica, Lighthouse, University of Brighton Gallery plus projects at spaces and public sites to be announced nearer the festival date.
