La Cathédrale de Winchester dans le Hampshire

Débutée en 1079, cette cathédrale conserve des structures architecturales normandes dans la crypte et les transepts. La nef fut remodelée au 14è siècle et on dit que c’est la  nef la plus longue qui existe parmi celles de style gothique perpendiculaire.

Vous pourrez examiner des exemples de sculptures, boiseries et ferronneries qui reprennent les 1100 années d’histoire de la cathédrale dans la galerie du triforium. La bibliothèque remonte aux années 1150 et parmi ses trésors vous trouverez la Bible de Winchester du 12è siècle!

La chorale de la cathédrale chante en office du soir à 17h30 du lundi au samedi (sauf le mercredi et pendant les vacances scolaires). La chorale chante aussi pendant les offices du dimanche à 10h, 11h15 et 15h30.

Le centre des visiteurs inauguré par Sa Majesté la Reine en 1993 possède une coquette boutique et de somptueux restaurants The Refectory ou le Paul Woodhouse Suite.

Directions routières

From the TIC turn left and walk up the High Street shopping area. Take the 2nd turning left into Market St. The Cathedral is straight ahead with the Visitor Centre, (Shop, Refectory & Paul Woodhouse Suite) located opposite the cathedral on the right.
