Owl & Monkey Haven
Located just outside the county town of Newport is the Isle of Wight's brand new multi-award winning animal attraction that simply cannot be missed. Enter the park to find a tranquil environment where a diverse collection of rescued primates relax and play in spacious enclosures, and various species of owl spend their days looking elegantly menacing.
Winner of the Gold Award in the Best Small Attraction of the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence 2011, the Owl & Monkey Haven continues to expand and develop. Primates housed at the Haven range from the widely distributed (and incredibly cheeky!) rhesus macaque to the critically endangered black-and-white ruffed lemur. Cared for at the park are three different species of gibbon alone, most notably two loveable Siamangs named Bog and Xhabu! Many species of owl can be seen, including the snowy owl of Harry Potter fame, the tiny Australian boobook, and two friendly hand-reared owls who enjoy coming out of their aviaries to meet their visitors!
Visitor facilities include a tea room, gift shop, education lodge, and two adventure play areas allowing your own little monkeys to let off some steam. Daily keeper talks and guided tours provide visitors with the opportunity to get up close and personal with the animals, while learning about their individual personalities and histories. Get even closer to the Haven’s smallest residents with a V.I.P marmoset encounter! These tiny South American monkeys are delightfully mischievous, and thoroughly enjoy being fed by visitors.
New for 2012 is the heart-warming conclusion to a male white-throated capuchin's search for company, which has finally come in the form of the beautiful Lulu.
There's plenty to see and do at the Owl & Monkey Haven, and a visit is a guaranteed memorable experience.
